Overview
Winter on Baikal is a special period of time, which cannot be compared with anything else. Just imagine the snowy expanses and kilometers of crystal ice, ice cliffs and caves, huge hummocks, lots of photos and unforgettable emotions, all these things wait for you in this tour. For a week, you will visit almost all important places and sights of Baikal (Irkutsk, Listvyanka Olkhon), go by hovercraft, try Buryat cuisine and the famous Baikal omul, get acquainted with a flora and fauna of the lake, look at Baikal from a bird’s eye view and at a depth of 1500 meters, and of course take the famous Circum Baikal Train.
This tour is very similar in content with the tour “Meet Baikal”, but it is totally different in emotional attitude. Winter Baikal is completely another Baikal, unfamiliar for “summer” tourist. In winter, you can walk there where it is impossible in summer, ride on a dog sleds, snowmobile, make unforgettable photos and so on.
Itinerary
IRKUTSK
Morning meeting at the airport / railway station with a nameplate “Baikal Vision”. Transfer to the hotel. Check-in.
Lunch in the restaurant at 13:00. Excursion with a guide in the historical center of Irkutsk: churches, old wooden houses, new entertaining zone “130 district”.
Free dinner. Your guide will advise you the best restaurant or cafe according to your wishes and desires. Overnight in the hotel.
IRKUTSK – LISTVYANKA – IRKUTSK
Breakfast. Meeting with your guide. Transfer to Listvyanka. On the way you will visit Taltsy museum – architecture museum under open air. Then you will visit the Baikal Limnological Museum, where you discover flora and fauna of the Baikal region, you will see live seals, dive to the bottom of Lake Baikal at a depth of 1,637 m for 15 minutes.
After you will take a lift to Cherskiy rock to look at the picturesque panorama of the Baikal and Angara river.
Lunch in a restaurant of Baikal cuisine, where you will taste famous Baikal omul and Buryat national cuisine. After lunch you will visit a fish market.
You can also go to the nerpinary or enjoy a hovercraft trip or a dog sledding (extra charge). Return to Irkutsk. Free dinner. Overnight in the hotel.
IRKUTSK – KHUZHIR
Breakfast. Transfer to Khuzhir – central village in Olkhon island. On the way you will have several stops in interesting places. Lunch in Buryat restaurant. After you will drive on ice from main land to the Island. Check-in.
Today you will have an excursion around Khuzhir village: Shaman Rock, one of the nine sacred place of Asia. Dinner. Overnight in the resort.
KHUZHIR
Breakfast. Departure for an excursion (8 hours) at the northernmost point of the island – Cape Khoboy. Because of the lack of asphalt roads on the island, your trip will be in “off-road” style by specialized cars like UAZ or Niva.
Cape Khoboy, a sacred place for the indigenous people of the island – the Buryats. It takes plenty of shamanic rituals and religious ceremonies. Here you can see all four sides of the lake. During your excursion, the driver will prepare for you lunch from fresh fish. Return to Khuzhir. Dinner and overnight in the resort.
KHUZHIR
Breakfast. We continue our journey on Baikal ice. Today you will have an excursion around the South part of Olkhon Island. Also you will visit Ogoy Island where you will find the Buddhist stupa of Enlightenment. According to legend, if you make three circles around the Stupa and make a wish, it will definitely come true. You will also visit Cape Khorgoy, where you can see beautiful ice caves and take great photos. Our guide will tell you many legends and stories about these places. Return to Khuzhir at about 17.00. Dinner and overnight in the guest house.
KHUZHIR – IRKUTSK
Breakfast. Today we will have a long road to Irkutsk (about 5 hours). Departure at 10 a.m.
Lunch on the way (extra charge). On the road you can see the 3 types of terrain: rocks, forests and steppes. Arrival in Irkutsk. Please tell your driver where you need to go: to the airport or to a hotel. End of the program.
