Overview

Many people asked us and we finally did it! Baikal and Mongolia in one tour. 10 days of unforgettable adventures and emotions for a lifetime. Wild untouched nature, a million-year history, a thousand-year culture are waiting for you on our tour!
During our tour you will visit Olkhon Island, Cape Khoboy, Listvyanka, take hydrofoil, meet a shaman, learn Buryat dances, visit Buryatia, Ulan-Ude, the center of Buddhism in Russia, Kyakhta. Moreover, you will cross the car border with Mongolia, walk around Ulaanbaatar, try Buryat and Mongolian cuisine, climb the largest statue of Genghis Khan, visit the Terelj National Park, the Mini-Gobi Desert, the ancient capital of Mongolia, Karakorum. In addition, you will get acquainted with the life of real Mongolian nomads, who still live in yurts, and also spend the night in real, “non-tourist” yurts. 

Itinerary

IRKUTSK – LISTVYANKA

Morning meeting at the airport / railway station with a nameplate “BaikalVision”.  Transfer to Listvyanka village. Today you will visit Taltsy open-air museum. Here you will get acquainted with architecture of the 18th and 19th centuries. Then you will go up with the cable car to the Chersky Stone, from where you can see a picturesque panorama of Baikal and the source of the Angara river. Lunch in a restaurant with Baikal cuisine, where you will finally have the opportunity to taste the famous Baikal omul. Visit the Baikal Museum, where you discover flora and fauna of the Baikal region, you will see live seals, dive to the bottom of Lake Baikal at a depth of 1,637 m for 15 minutes.
Lunch in a restaurant of Baikal cuisine, where you will taste famous Baikal omul and Buryat national cuisine. After lunch, you will visit a fish market.
You can also go to the nerpinary or enjoy a boat trip (extra charge). Way Back to Irkutsk. Free dinner. Overnight in the hotel.

LISTVYANKA – KHUZHIR
Breakfast. Transfer to the hydrofoil boat. Boarding. Now you will go to Khuzhir, Olkhon Island.
Arrival at 2 p.m. Late lunch. Today you will have an excursion around Khuzhir village: Shaman Rock, one of the nine sacred place of Asia. Dinner. Overnight in the resort.

KHUZHIR
Breakfast. Departure for an excursion (8 hours) at the northernmost point of the island – Cape Khoboy. Due to a lack of roads on the island, your trip will be in “road-off” style in specially designed cars like UAZ or Niva.
Cape Khoboy is a sacred place for the indigenous people of the island – the Buryats. It takes plenty of shamanic rituals and religious ceremonies. Here you can see all four sides of the lake. During your excursion, the driver will prepare for you lunch from fresh fish.
Return to Khuzhir. Dinner and overnight in the resort.

OLKHON ISLAND (KHUZHIR) – IRKUTSK – ULAN-UDE

Breakfast. Today we have a long road to Irkutsk (about 5 hours). Departure at 9 am.
On the way we will have the excursion around the southern part of Olkhon Island where you can see: alga Bay, Mount Trident, Lake Nury, Lake Heart, Cape Horse Head.
Then we will take a ferry to cross Olkhon Gates channel. Transfer to Irkutsk.
On the way you will be able to see 3 types of terrain: rocks, forests and steppes. Lunch in the ethnopark “Golden Horde”. In addition, today you
will get acquainted with the Buryat folklore: dances, songs, throat singing, purification rites, etc.
Arrival in Irkutsk at 18.00 to the railway station. Free diner. Boarding the train. Overnight in the train (2nd class). 

ULAN-UDE – ULAAN-BAATAR

Meeting in the railway station. Breakfast. City tour. Then we go to Ivolginsky Temple – the center of Buddhism in Russia. On the territory of the Temple you can talk with monks about an issues that concern you. Lunch on the territory of Temple.
Then departure to Kyakhta – to the border with Mongolia. Border crossing. 
After border control you will need to change the money to local currency. The border exchange rate is practically the same  with the rate in Ulaanbaatar. Dinner in the border town of Altan-Bulag.
Then departure to Ulaanbaatar (4 hours).  Moreover, the road is quite picturesque: steppes, mountains, green meadows with various animals.
Arrival in Ulaanbaatar at 22:00. Check-in to rooms (double occupancy). Night in the hotel.

ULAANBAATAR – TERELZH NATIONAL PARK

Breakfast. Meeting with the guide. A trip to the Tsonzhin-Boldog area, to the famous equestrian statue of Genghis Khan.
Next, visit the Terelzh National Park (Cave of 100 Lamas, Valley of Dinosaurs, Temple of Meditation and Turtle Rock).
In addition, today you will have the opportunity to ride camels and take an epic photo with an eagle on your arm.
Return to Ulaanbaatar. Free time. Overnight at the hotel.

ULAN BATOR — MINI GOBI

Breakfast. Departure to Elsen Tasarkhai (Mini Gobi Desert), which is covered with sand dunes with willows, streams and bushes and looks like a small desert in the center of the country. On the way we will meet many animals: sheep, goats, cows, yaks, camels, and vultures. Lunch on the way. Arrival in the desert, walks and photos.
Sand dunes are an ideal place for riding two-humped camels. After getting acquainted with the equipment and the basics of camel riding, we will be able to explore the sand dunes on camelback.
In the afternoon we will visit a local nomadic family in their yurt and learn about their daily nomadic life.
Dinner and overnight in a real yurt at the foot of the mountain. The locals will cook us dinner and make us local milk vodka.
At night or in the morning at dawn you can hear the red deer calling females for mating – a very epic howl.
P.S. Be prepared that there is no comfortable toilet or shower here, this is a real nomad yurt.

MINI GOBI — KARAKORUM

Watching the sunrise (optional).
Breakfast at 9:00. Then we will go to Karakorum, a small village and one of the main tourist destinations of the country. This village was once the capital of the Mongol Empire and one of the most important cities in the history of the Silk Road.
Upon arrival, we will visit the Karakorum Museum and learn more about the beautiful ancient city of Kharkhorin (Karakorum) and Genghis Khan. Lunch.
Then we will visit to the magnificent and oldest Buddhist complex of Erdenezuu, built in the 16th century, with 108 Buddhist stupas. Here you can listen to a monk chanting Buddhist sutras. Photos in national costumes, buying souvenirs. Then check in to the hotel. Today you can enjoy all the benefits of civilization. Dinner in the hotel. Overnight in the hotel.

MINI GOBI – ULAANBAATAR

Breakfast. Afterwards we will drive towards Hustai National Park. This area is home to the Mongolian wild horse, known as the Prezewalski’s horse (Takhi), with a unique landscape that includes mountains and steppes.
Once you reach the national park, you will visit a small information center that will tell you about this national park. We will take a short drive and go on a hike to see the horses in their natural habitat. There are only 7 different species of wild horses left on the planet (3 species of zebra and 3 species of wild donkeys), but Takhi is the last truly wild horse on the planet.
Then drive to Ulaanbaatar. Check in at the hotel. Free time. Mongolia is famous for its wool, cashmere, yak wool and “Mongolian goodies”. So you can use your free time for shopping. Night at the hotel.

Breakfast. Transfer to the airport. End of program.
